From our beginning in 1971, we have always considered our reputation with clients as our greatest asset. Our goal is to provide our clients with quality, cost-effective civil engineering solutions.

We have many repeat clients, and that is not something we take for granted. We believe the best indicator of success is when clients come back to us over and over. It is our aim to make each project better than the last.

Established in 1971

David Hicks and Associates was established in 1971 as a consulting firm specializing in municipal engineering and land surveying. That same year, Eufaula Engineering Company was purchased to provide expanded engineering and land surveying services to southeast Alabama, southwest Georgia and northwest Florida.

David Hicks, PE

Founder

David grew up on a farm in Graceville, Florida, but after seeing a magazine advertisement offering starting salaries of $100 per week, he decided he had no choice but to become an engineer. Upon graduation from Auburn University, David began his career with the Army Corps of Engineers in Mobile, Alabama. In 1967, he went to work as the Chief Field Engineer for the Economic Development Administration. Then on April Fool’s Day 1971, David Hicks and Associates, Inc. was founded to provide municipal engineering and land surveying services to the Wiregrass.

Over the next 45 years, Mr. Hicks completed countless projects benefiting the citizens of Southeast Alabama, Southwest Georgia, and Northwest Florida. Mr. Hicks’ vision, perseverance, and experience with government grants and funding allowed him to be instrumental in establishing many county wide water systems, and running hundreds of thousands of feet of water mains to provide thousands of rural residents with “city” water.

Joe Harmon, PE

Project Manager

Joe started with David Hicks and Associates as a project engineer in 2011. Since then, he has been responsible for over 130 projects, particularly in the areas of water, sewer, streets, and drainage. Joe manages each project from start to finish, including the development of engineering reports to help obtain funding from government agency loans and grants, completion of engineering drawings and contract documents for bidding, and finally construction oversight. Joe takes pride in completing even the smallest details of his work with care and precision and makes himself readily available to his clients, treating them with honesty and respect.

Joe graduated Summa cum laude from Auburn University with a degree in Civil Engineering and is a licensed professional engineer in the State of Alabama.

In addition to his work, Joe loves spending time with his wife, daughter, and extended family in the woods of Barbour County. Joe is also a member of First Baptist Church of Dothan.

Emily Ames

Office Manager

Emily started working with David Hicks and Associates in 2016 as the office manager. Her responsibilities include bookkeeping, invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, contract management, and drafting. Emily efficiently manages the administrative side of the firm keeping important information organized and accessible.

When she’s not working, Emily spends a lot of her time at the ball park with her husband and two boys. Emily and her family are active members of Covenant Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Eufaula.
